Magic and Cookie Johnson are celebrating 35 years of marriage, but their relationship has gone through much more than just anniversary celebrations.

The couple first met while attending Michigan State University. Magic noticed Cookie at a party, and what started as an introduction eventually grew into a serious relationship.

Their road to marriage wasn’t always smooth.

The couple had previously been engaged, but those wedding plans were called off. They eventually found their way back to each other and decided to get married.

Magic and Cookie tied the knot on September 14, 1991, in Lansing, Michigan.

Just weeks later, their marriage faced an unexpected challenge when Magic announced that he had tested positive for HIV. Cookie was pregnant with their first child at the time.

Magic has previously shared that he gave Cookie the choice to leave after telling her about his diagnosis. She chose to stay, and the two continued building their family together.

They welcomed their son, E.J., in 1992 and later adopted their daughter, Elisa. Magic also has a son, Andre, from a previous relationship.

The couple’s marriage has had other difficult moments. Magic and Cookie separated in 2001, but they eventually reconciled and continued their relationship.

Over the years, they’ve also built businesses, raised their family, and supported each other through different seasons of life.

Now, 35 years after walking down the aisle, Magic and Cookie are celebrating another milestone together.

Their relationship has certainly had its ups and downs, but after three and a half decades of marriage, the duo is still writing their love story.
