Jennifer Lopez has spent decades singing about love, chasing love, and putting her relationships in the spotlight. But despite being married four times and having some of Hollywood’s most talked-about romances, Lopez says there’s one thing she still questions: whether she has ever been truly loved.
During an October 2025 appearance on The Howard Stern Show, Lopez was asked a surprisingly personal question.
“Do you think you’ve truly been loved?”
After pausing, Lopez simply answered, “No.”
Her answer becomes even more striking when you look at her relationship history.

Lopez has been married four times. Her first marriage was to Ojani Noa in 1997. The marriage lasted less than a year before they divorced in 1998.
She later married choreographer Cris Judd in 2001 after meeting him while working on her “Love Don’t Cost a Thing” music video. Their marriage ended in 2003. Lopez previously described Judd as someone she loved and respected, but acknowledged that their relationship ultimately wasn’t able to sustain a marriage.
Then came Marc Anthony. Lopez married the singer in 2004, and the couple welcomed twins, Max and Lemme, in 2008. They separated in 2011, with their divorce finalized in 2014.
The relationship fans believe is most connected to Lopez’s ideas about love was her relationship with Ben Affleck.
The two first became one of Hollywood’s biggest couples in the early 2000s. They became engaged in 2002, but called off their wedding and ended their relationship in 2004 amid enormous media attention.
Nearly two decades later, they found their way back to each other.
Lopez and Affleck rekindled their romance in 2021, married in Las Vegas in 2022, and later celebrated with a larger wedding ceremony in Georgia. But the second chance eventually came to an end as well. Lopez filed for divorce in August 2024, and their divorce was finalized in 2025.
And those aren’t the only major relationships Lopez has experienced.
Her dating history has also included Sean “Diddy” Combs, dancer Casper Smart, former baseball star Alex Rodriguez, and a brief period of public interest surrounding Drake. Rodriguez and Lopez became engaged in 2019 before ending their relationship in 2021.
So when Lopez says she has never felt truly loved, it’s not coming from someone who hasn’t experienced relationships.
During her conversation with Stern, she explained that she had learned it wasn’t that she wasn’t lovable. Instead, she believed her former partners simply weren’t capable of giving her the kind of love she needed.
“They don’t have it in them,” she said, while acknowledging that her partners had given her what they were capable of giving.
She also turned the reflection inward, admitting that there were times when she didn’t love herself either.
After four marriages and years of highly publicized relationships, she isn’t simply asking why the relationships failed. She’s questioning what she accepted, what she needed, and whether she understood her own worth along the way.
And after everything she’s experienced, Lopez appears to be entering a chapter where she’s less interested in proving that someone loves her—and more interested in knowing that the love is actually healthy, genuine, and capable of meeting her where she is.
