Tyler Perry has a lot to say about marriage, and after making several movies about it, he says he’s not interested in getting married himself.
While discussing his latest Why Did I Get Married? project during his appearance on ‘The Jennifer Hudson Show‘, Perry was asked if marriage is something he could see happening in his own life.
His answer was simple: “Nope.”
Perry explained that his issue isn’t necessarily with marriage itself. He’s more concerned about what can happen if the marriage ends in divorce.
The filmmaker said he’s watched people he knows build wealth throughout their lives, only to lose a significant amount of it following a divorce.
That experience has shaped how he views marriage for himself.

Perry has also revealed that he hasn’t been on a date in about 30 years. He previously had a long-term relationship with model Gelila Bekele from 2007 until they split up in 2020.
The former couple shares one son, Aman. Perry also announced that both of them are moving to Puerto Rico as he looks to slow down and spend more time enjoying life outside of work.
Much of Perry’s career has focused on relationships, marriage, and the challenges couples face. From ‘Why Did I Get Married?’ to the upcoming ‘Why Did I Get Married Again?’, Perry has spent years telling stories about people trying to navigate love and marriage.
But when it comes to his own life, the 57-year-old entertainment mogul says he’s comfortable staying unmarried.
For Perry, marriage may remain a major part of the stories he tells, but he doesn’t seem to be looking to make it part of his own story.
